Elbogengesellschaft

by Roald Sinissaar   »

Elbogengesellschaft is a well-spread noun in German, meaning capitalism. It is, in broader meaning, representative of the physical ? elbows raging, heads bumping, teeth grinding ? race toward profit of any kind. Whether it be financial gain or simply a higher personal ranking in whatever hierarchy.

Thus this fancy unpronounceable term can easily be transferred into the context of daily school life.

And so I come to my ever so ranty point. It is not so much a point, but a rant. A proper point has, though, all the characteristics of an appropriately proper rant.

Coming to my pointy rant, I love school. I love the tests, the essays, the homework, the strainful lessons. I love how teachers say I’m absolutely no good and how I’ll end up living in a cardboard box. I love how they tell me to wear proper clothing and don’t. Feel the love! I love how I can skip lessons with an obviously fake written excuse, but get gnadslapped when I tell the truth. I especially love the hypocrisy. I love it, I really do.

I just wish that one day I can just share my love with you, teachers, give it all back.

I guess it’s a love-hate relationship.

This post has nothing in particular to do with die Elbogengesellschaft in particular, it is rather more a stream of consciousness than a well-structured entry. Also, I just really, really wanted to use the word.
