My thought of the day

by Karolin Oja   »

Here’s the thing – Murphy’s laws don’t actually exist. We just think they do because we remember them at times when it’s necessary. Maybe some of you already know this, but it just hit me today.

There have been many incidents where Murphy’s laws could have happened, yet didn’t. And I instantly forgot about them. And when something Murphy’ish happened, I thought that was how it always happened. And suddenly realized that it’s not like that.

The explanation is probably that the human brain actually generates many-many thoughts (more than n) about a situation, even if they stay in the back of the mind. So basically every option is considered by the brain and that’s why sometimes you get a feeling like you knew that was going to happen. You didn’t.

But it’s better to think the other way around because there’s nothing worse than people being wise-asses in the middle of conversations.

About the author
Karolin Oja

Karolin Oja is definitely the most idiosyncratic and rebellious of the lot, every post abundant with subversion. When she is not overthrowing the government or making the world spin backwards she enjoys strolls on the beach and inspiring conversations with people of equal stature. Voted most likely to become president twice.
